In the Spring of 1904, the long-awaited steamship service to Philadelphia was launched by the Milton Steamship Company, with the vessel Mary M. Vinyard making the overnight run between the city and Milton. The service proved popular with passengers and freight shippers, but would ultimately last only a year before going bankrupt.
