Rev. George Robert Hodge (1862 – 1917) was pastor of the Milton M. P. Church from 1897 to 1898. In the 1910 Federal census, Rev. Hodge, born in Maryland, lists his father’s birthplace as Bavaria, Germany, and his mother’s birthplace as Ireland. Ordained in 1891 and married to Emma Florence (“Flossy”) Lyne (1872 – 1957) on the day of his ordination, his pastorates included the towns of Mariners, Chincoteague, Franklin City, Holly Run and others, primarily in Maryland. Hard-working and always under strain from his many responsibilities, he succumbed to tuberculosis in 1917, survived by his wife and 7 children. His eulogy in the proceedings of the Maryland Conference Quarterly Meeting of the M.P. Church describes a stern, learned man of deep faith and conviction.
